The concept of Centerpoint Christianity briefly stated is:

Christianity from the centerpoint outward.

Christianity from the climax forward.

This blog constitutes concepts for a new view of Christianity that begins with what is foundational and moves forward from that point. It is based on the assumption that we are being pulled towards something unseen and pushed from a place that once was.

What Centerpoint Christianity attempts to do is bypass some of the constraints imposed by metanarratives by using the life of Christ and particularly the climactic actions of Christ as beginning points.

It supports the conviction that God is essentially timeless. From this beginning point we endeavor to move outward from the definitive moment of the parousia (visitation) of Christ and forward to the future which functions as a type of magnet to "what can be--and is coming".

When we begin at the life of Christ and move outward as from the centerpoint of a web, rather than in a linear timeline of history, another wide picture emerges.

hope for the future

A new reformation makes room for an old way of following. At one juncture in Christianity we made way for community conversation, spiritual direction or mentoring, and contemplative moments. When time moved slow we had time. Space without interruption made it natural. When we weren't pressured by clocks, demands, entertainment invitations, unmitigated time possibilities we had 'sacred space' both personal and communal. Somewhere it was lost.

It will take a measure of intentionality to recover 'sacred space'. Some people need the assist that a personal trainer gives to keep them fit, or help them lose weight, or to drive them to meet a goal. Almost all of us could use a spiritual mentor to assist us in finding our center, our core, our reason for following the Christ. This is the new reformation I want to be a part of. To walk alongside of a small community and provide intentional development of spiritual direction, coaching, mentoring, imagining.

We desperately need this.

Most people even when they are intentional need help in this process. Having walked the road for quite sometime I have reserve to give, guidance to provide, ideas to encourage. Sacred space is not meant to be boring or tedious as in some perceptions of spiritual disciplines.  Rather sacred space will be enhanced by movies, songs, stories and be attentive to life. It will be about giving people a paradigm for seeing God in the life they are now living. It is a way to help us 'think differently, reflect on our feelings deeply, and engage our world creatively'.
