WATERSHED: A voice in the wilderness. DARYL UNDERWOOD.

The concept of Centerpoint Christianity briefly stated is:

Christianity from the centerpoint outward.

Christianity from the climax forward.

This blog constitutes concepts for a new view of Christianity that begins with what is foundational and moves forward from that point. It is based on the assumption that we are being pulled towards something unseen and pushed from a place that once was.

What Centerpoint Christianity attempts to do is bypass some of the constraints imposed by metanarratives by using the life of Christ and particularly the climactic actions of Christ as beginning points.

It supports the conviction that God is essentially timeless. From this beginning point we endeavor to move outward from the definitive moment of the parousia (visitation) of Christ and forward to the future which functions as a type of magnet to "what can be--and is coming".

When we begin at the life of Christ and move outward as from the centerpoint of a web, rather than in a linear timeline of history, another wide picture emerges.

the life jacket

In the last entry I mentioned that you had better have a life jacket on hand because we are going down. I am speaking to 'Christians' now. What is the one thing that Christianity can't lose in the rummage sale? Here is the life jacket, the One thing we need. It is the foundation upon which all else either stands or falls.

It is resurrection.

Resurrection is the life jacket we must cling to. This is the unmovable belief we hold at center point. It is the hope, the conviction, the trust that we will ascend somehow into eternal. It is what has to be believed to be seen. In the 'ocean of all else' this is the one thing we must have. Without it we will drown in the impending flood of information technology, relativity, and opinion.

Eden can be a mythical or real place, hell can be an offense to our minds and a figment of our imaginations. It doesn't matter that much. What is of first import is the incarnation, crucifixion, and ultimately for my and your principal concerns-the resurrection. Jesus is the center of Christianity and without resurrection Jesus 'is no more'. This is the one non-negotiable of center set theology. Without this there ceases to be a vortex for the swirl to gather round. All becomes meaningless when we lose the expectation of the eternal.
