The concept of Centerpoint Christianity briefly stated is:

Christianity from the centerpoint outward.

Christianity from the climax forward.

This blog constitutes concepts for a new view of Christianity that begins with what is foundational and moves forward from that point. It is based on the assumption that we are being pulled towards something unseen and pushed from a place that once was.

What Centerpoint Christianity attempts to do is bypass some of the constraints imposed by metanarratives by using the life of Christ and particularly the climactic actions of Christ as beginning points.

It supports the conviction that God is essentially timeless. From this beginning point we endeavor to move outward from the definitive moment of the parousia (visitation) of Christ and forward to the future which functions as a type of magnet to "what can be--and is coming".

When we begin at the life of Christ and move outward as from the centerpoint of a web, rather than in a linear timeline of history, another wide picture emerges.

God and the stages of spiritual development

Stage One: I AM. Warrior. Conquerer. The Only God. In the beginning it is about God and what God is doing, building, creating.

Stage Two: Establishing a Structure. Building boundaries. Establishing a community. The problem is that the community has no depth and is in a sense a psedo or immature community. Named Israel. A community of laws. A people told 'how to be'.

Stage Three: Turmoil.Questioning, debating, struggling. Primarily with Israel. More pointedly with Self. The period of the prophets. What I've built is not working. The house is falling at the foundation. Outwardly the strife is with Israel the representative o mankind. God pleads, threatens, becomes angry, makes rash vows, resend those vows, make promises to allure her back, gives her warning about what will happen if he leaves her to herself. His heart is hurt because he in a 'God who feels' (insert Heshel here) so he laments 'what do I do with a choice vine that ha become wild, unmanagable'. He realizes that love is only love when one is managed but when one is set free to come back and love in return.

SILENCE: Intertestimental period. Contemplative. Dark night of the soul. Which way will this thing go? What emerges is the longsuffering wins. God decides, 'I will make good'. The question for the people of God is: 'Has Elvis left the building?' Tanakh period when Israel is laboring on almost 'without God' Prime illustration is the books of Ruth and Esther. Things are done 'in the memory of old' rather than 'with God'. God has not left but he is thinking about it. All seems so hopeless for God and Israel. He is thinking. Contemplating. What can he do. He makes a decision and goes forth.

Stage Four: Decided. Committed.God on the other side of silence. The God coming to rest and bringing the community along. This is the work, vocation of Jesus. He will prove faithful as the Israel. Either the people will that hide beneath this new rock will be crushed. The first house will be taken down , left desolate by the mighty rock of Rome. Jesus comes to rescue Israel and when she 'will not' He takes on the role of king and establishes a new kingdom. The old one will wither like a fig, the new will spread its wings through the earth. This is a kingdom of hearts. A spiritual kingdom that will infiltrate the world with a message of love.
